The connection between your gut health and lymphatic system

To first understand the connection of the gut and the lymphatic system, it’s important to understand how they function.

Our gut (gastrointestinal tract) is where we digest food, starting from when we chew it in our mouth. Then our body either uses the nutrients from the food – or gets rid of what’s left as feces.

The lymphatic system is like a network of tubes that move lymphatic fluid around our body. This fluid helps transport important things like nutrients, hormones, and medicine from our gut to other parts of our body. It also contains special cells called lymphocytes that help our body fight off germs and infections by producing antibodies and help remove bacteria, viruses, and other foreign invaders.

The gut and the lymphatic system work together to protect our body from bad stuff. Our gut has special tissue called GALT (gut-associated lymphoid tissue), which us part of the lymphatic system and helps protect us from harmful things in our food. It also helps absorb important nutrients into our body while keeping dangerous toxins and pathogens out. When our GALT works well, our body stays healthy. But if its not working properly, we can get sick or have problems like allergies or autoimmune disorders.

Why?

When we eat food, our body breaks down the big nutrients (protein, fat, and carbs) into smaller ones. Protein becomes amino acids, fat becomes fatty acids, and carbs become glucose. These tiny nutrients travel through a special layer in the intestines called GALT and into our bloodstream. From there, they go to different parts of our body where we need them. It’s important to get enough protein because it helps our immune system fight off bad things that can make us sick. When our GALT is working well, we are less likely to get sick because we get all the good nutrients we need. But if it’s not working well, we can get sick more often and have problems with malnutrition.

It’s SO important to prioritize the health of your GALT and lymphatic system when trying to heal your gut, which is why I created the Lymphatic Rescue Summit with experts and practitioners.

If you’d like to learn more about your lymphatic system, here are 3 Masterclasses from the Lymphatic Rescue Summit.  One hundred thousand (yes! 100,000) people attended the summit and these were three of the most watched masterclasses packed with useful information!
