TSS – EP 001 – “I Don’t Want My Life To Go To Waste”: How To Get Healthy, Wealthy & Wise | Shivan Sarna – Transcript

(0:00 – 0:15)

I just cleaned the toilet instead of doing this. Have you ever put something off that you really want to do and you know you should do it, but it’s just quite confrontational on whatever level? The stakes are high. It’s important to you.

(0:15 – 0:28)

That’s how my garage got cleaned in the middle of July in Florida when my husband was studying to get a CPA. He was like, you know, I think the garage really needs to be cleaned. Yeah, that’s how I’ve organized my silverware before.

(0:29 – 0:33)

Yep. But no, just about 10 minutes ago, I was cleaning the toilet. That’s Sadie, by the way.

(0:33 – 0:54)

Hi, I’m Siobhan Sarna. I’m a little nervous, which is hilarious and adorable because I try to tell myself I’m adorable when I’m feeling stressed and cut myself some slack because I have over 10,000 hours of live television experience as a host on HSN back in the day. I really want this to be great.

(0:54 – 1:02)

I really want to help you. I really want to represent myself well. And these are my internal struggles.

(1:02 – 1:13)

And why am I sharing this with you? Because bigger picture, I absolutely know I can do this. And I absolutely know I have information that can help you about health, wealth, and wisdom. It’s the Siobhan Show, health, wealth, and wisdom.

(1:14 – 1:34)

And I’ve been teaching people for a really long time, 10 years now, and actually 10 years with Siobhan’s Yoga Studio in 1991 to 2001, about their health. The information I have access to is very special. It’s not the typical doctor’s office conversation.

(1:34 – 2:08)

And I’ve produced 12 online summits, SIBO SOS 1 and 2, the IBS and SIBO SOS Summit, the Liver and Gallbladder Summit, Lymphatic SOS and Rescue Summit, the Immune Science and Wisdom of Menopause Summit, one of my favorites, and the Women’s Health Rescue Summit. That’s what’s been going on since 2015, 16, 17 is when I launched the first one. But I’ve been working on these projects and getting into the field and the world of SIBO and mold, and even though I was a mold denier originally.

(2:09 – 2:29)

And I just really know that the conversations that I have had with over 300 experts and the questions I’ve asked and the answers they’ve given me really can solve a lot of people’s dilemmas about their health. Why do I care about health? Well, I mean, it feels great to feel great. I worked in a moldy television studio for 20 years.

(2:30 – 2:39)

I was getting really tired from the overnights. Then I got on during the day. High stress, right? High heels, full makeup, dollars per minute is how we were graded.

(2:40 – 3:04)

Dealing with the guests, somebody talking in my ear. I mean, a dear friend of mine, Helen Keeney, who was a host for 15 years, she and I are going to do an episode about what it’s like to be a TV shopping host because there was mold on the vents and it was disgusting and the dead skin and the dust and the just the stickiness of the hairspray, the full makeup. The women there, the wonderful artists, would clean like crazy.

(3:04 – 3:23)

It wasn’t on them, but it was right near a big fan for the whole studio. And when you get moisture and dust and debris and darkness and things that don’t dry out like Florida, although Florida dries out more than the Pacific Northwest, but there could have been leaks. This building was not maintained well.

(3:23 – 3:32)

It’s hopefully going to be torn down shortly. I was getting sicker and the women in that makeup room were getting sick. I was really getting kind of desperate.

(3:32 – 3:39)

I wasn’t feeling well. I was extremely distended and bloated. People were asking me when the baby was due.

(3:39 – 3:49)

First of all, I was out of childbearing years, but I got the point. I was wearing two pairs of Spanx like every day. You know, that will move your liver.

(3:51 – 3:56)

I had to be aspirational. That’s what they called it. Be good looking.

(3:57 – 4:00)

Well, they can’t say that. That’s not politically correct. Be aspirational.

(4:00 – 4:36)

Anyway, at some point towards the end of while I was still in that building, I was having to go like to acupuncture or get a massage or do something disruptive to my central nervous system in order to feel like I’d had eight hours sleep and in order to continue to go on for the next four or five days. That’s how I met Dr. Allison Seebecker, a true SIBO specialist, after a series of events led me to find out that I had SIBO and that we go over in the episode with Dr. Allison Seebecker. That’s a little bit about health, okay? I’m interested in all of those things.

(4:36 – 4:47)

My mother passed away from lymphoma. Was it the chemo? Was it just that we didn’t know anything about the lymphatics? Did she just shut down after my dad died? I don’t know. Yes and all maybe.

(4:47 – 5:04)

So I want you to know about how the lymph system can help you maximize your immunity and your health and your beauty. It’s great beauty treatment. Do you have armpits or do you have arm puffs? I want you to know about what to do if you have gallstone issues.

(5:04 – 5:21)

Do you have a gallbladder? Do you not have the gallbladder? Has that made your gut symptoms worse? And of course about SIBO, which is the underlying cause of IBS, and the number one underlying cause of IBS is food poisoning. So there’s a lot I’ve discovered and I want to share that with you. And that’s why I’ve done 12 online summits.

(5:22 – 5:34)

But in a way I was hiding just like brutal, brutal vulnerability here or loving vulnerability here. I had been kind of hiding over the years behind the summits. Like I was really promoting the experts.

(5:34 – 5:44)

In some cases they just submitted a master class. I didn’t get around to doing a intro and a, you know, close at the end. Often I did that, but sometimes I just ran out of bandwidth.

(5:44 – 6:06)

And so like sometimes you could watch the summit and I was barely present. Most of the time I was, but I’ve had this nattering urge, voice in my head, however you want to call it, intuition to do something that is more my voice and still bring you the experts and the advice. I’ve had a lot of life experience and I don’t want it to go to waste.

(6:06 – 6:26)

If my life experience could help you at all, then I feel like the crud I went through was not wasted. Like let’s exponentially expand the knowledge that I gained by having my parents die when I was young. Dad at 13, mom 33.

(6:27 – 6:32)

By the way, my father was 69 when I was born. There was a 30 age gap. Fascinating story.

(6:33 – 6:47)

That will be a podcast for sure. Hope to turn it into a musical one day. So if you know anyone on Broadway who’s looking for a really spectacular Bollywood style story with a touch of Irish and bells, you let me know.

(6:47 – 6:56)

Let’s talk about wealth. So I am a little shy here because my parents always said, never talk about money. And I think that’s a mistake.

(6:56 – 7:21)

My mother, Annetta Marie Brown Sarna, her nickname was Bunny. She wanted to make sure that even at 12, maybe even a little bit younger, I had my own checking account and I knew how to balance a checkbook because she had friends who did not know how to do that. She had friends who when their husbands died, they did not know how to write a check, cash a check, deal with the bank.

(7:22 – 7:32)

Total, I’m going to say monetary illiteracy. Wealth has been really interesting for me. It’s been a huge series of lessons learned.

(7:32 – 7:47)

I’ve learned that it’s God’s money, not mine, that it is power for you to use for the highest good. Yes, to make life easier on what can be a difficult planetary experience here in the physical form. I have made a lot of money.

(7:47 – 8:01)

I have been without a lot of money throughout my life, periodically. That has been more with money as an adult versus when I had the yoga studio, Siobhan’s yoga studio for those 10 years. A lot of love, a lot of good karma, not a lot of money.

(8:02 – 8:26)

I have some wonderful friends who are not financially stable enough. What I want to do is to help you achieve some financial stability by making money on the internet. Now, if you didn’t grow up with the internet, I think that it is not an easy pivot to think, Oh, I will create a course, I’ll create a PDF, and I’ll get it out on social media.

(8:26 – 8:38)

And I’ll create a way to take the money and distribute it. I’ll develop an email list and I’ll stay in touch. This is what I ended up doing for the tail end of being on TV.

(8:38 – 8:53)

And for the past 10 years, it’s totally doable. It is absolutely a way to distribute your gifts and information out to the world. And it’s not for everybody else.

(8:53 – 9:16)

It can be for you too. And even if you made an extra this or that thousand bucks, kids scholarship fund, or your own kids school funding that’s not a scholarship, it could really change your life for the better. So I want to teach about the lessons I’ve learned, the mistakes I’ve made, the things that were like, Oh my gosh, I can’t believe how easy this was, or this was a heavy lift.

(9:16 – 9:27)

But now that I’ve done it a couple of times, it’s actually not that bad. So that’s a little bit about wealth. The other things about wealth that I want to talk to you about are how to care for the older generation financially.

(9:27 – 9:45)

If you’re in the sandwich situation where you’re taking care of your kids and your mom and dad, or even more complicated, your in -laws, I’ve had some really brutal experiences with this. I’ve also had some wins with this. I want to bring my sister on Serene Sarna.

(9:46 – 10:08)

She has worked in hospice for decades, but not in the nurse by your side, even though she is a death doula, you know, fascinating concept of death doula. Why not? There’s a birth doula. Let’s have a death doula, but about things to ask if you are trying to find support in a nursing home, assisted living, independent living, how to have those tough conversations.

(10:09 – 10:16)

My husband and I have a lot of experience with this. His father died when he was a young man. My mother died when I was 33.

(10:16 – 10:25)

Things were not in great shape, especially for him and his family. And by the way, no one those conversations. I know that.

(10:26 – 10:44)

We even have like an idea for a flexible document methodology that David, my husband, and I want to put together for you as a product. And when I was getting some advice from one of my business coaches, JJ Virgin, drop that name like it’s loose change. Hi, JJ.

(10:44 – 10:49)

She said, here’s the deal. No one wants to do this. So they have to do it.

(10:49 – 11:02)

And that’s a harder lift. So lean into that. I know people who have money who are situated really well in their later years, or someone in the family has money and is willing to part with it.

(11:02 – 11:16)

Some of it, it’s very expensive. What are some alternatives? What if you don’t have money? How about Medicaid applications? What’s the difference between Medicare and Medicaid? Yikes. Like that’s not a fun topic, right? But what if we could make it better for you? That’s a little bit about the wealth.

(11:16 – 11:28)

There’s also an interesting aspect about how wealth affects your health. And I have a session with a financial planner who was able to bring some research into the conversation about that. Let’s talk about wisdom.

(11:28 – 11:38)

So what comes to my mind immediately is that it has nothing to do with age. I know a lot of young people who are wise, and I know a lot of older people who are idiots. Namaste.

(11:39 – 12:00)

Seriously, I want to make sure that you know how to meditate. I don’t want you to think it’s for everyone else. It is the most transformative thing you can do for yourself, for your people around you, because you will be more centered, you will be more balanced, you will be more connected to your source.

(12:00 – 12:09)

Whatever you call it, it doesn’t matter to me. And I don’t think it matters to source. And I can call it God, the universe, on and on and on.

(12:10 – 12:30)

I want to make sure that you have the scientific techniques to be able to do that self-realization. Realizing that you are a spark of the infinite. Realizing that you are here on the planet to learn and to have fun and to experience this beautiful garden planet.

(12:31 – 12:41)

Have wisdom and discernment. What else about wisdom? Complicated relationships. I am a survivor, which is not a word I use often, because it really sounds like victim mentality.

(12:42 – 13:02)

And I actually don’t have that, but that’s the easiest way for me to explain it to you right now. I am a thriver of a 38-year narcissistic relationship. Not with a husband, not with a man, interestingly enough, but with a mother figure.

(13:02 – 13:22)

So when my mother passed in 1997, there had been another woman who had been very close to me, that my mother had asked, hey, we keep an eye on Siobhan after I’m gone, because my mother had cancer. And this woman was very wise, and she helped me a lot. Credit where credit is due.

(13:22 – 13:35)

However, it went terribly wrong. Sad to say, about 38 years in, I realized that she was a narcissist. I had not said no to her for 38 years.

(13:35 – 13:54)

And then when I did, my whole life changed for the better. But I suffered during that transition. I had friends who said that they had seen me in that situation, and they knew how smart I was and how bright I was and how savvy I was, and they didn’t see a way out.

(13:54 – 14:03)

And they just knew I had a blind spot. I worked on it. I got a lot of therapy, a lot of counseling from some very wise women who I want to bring on here.

(14:04 – 14:21)

And I found Dr. Romani on YouTube. Bless her and her work for helping people recover from narcissistic situations. And I had first learned the term of what a narcissist was probably midway through my career at HSN, probably 10, 12 years in.

(14:21 – 14:37)

And I was like, oh, I had no idea what it was. I, however, was a prime target for narcissistic personalities. So we’ll talk about that, how to cope, how to recognize it, how to get out of it.

(14:37 – 14:46)

If you mentally have to get out of it, but physically you have to still be there. One day I’d love to have Dr. Romani here. So if you know anybody who knows her, send her my way.

(14:46 – 14:53)

I’d love to have her on the podcast. And at the very least, get her book and check out her YouTube channel. I really do want to help you.

(14:53 – 14:59)

I don’t want any of my life experience to go to waste. I want to help you move forward. And I want it to be light.

(14:59 – 15:07)

I don’t want it to be where we’re all in this trauma bond together. I’ve already done that. I don’t want you to be in that anymore.

(15:07 – 15:29)

I want you to have lightness and joy and clarity. And the call to action is to take that next step, to move forward with joy and without adversity, to align your will with the divine so that you are making right decisions to help you thrive and do your best while you’re here. Thank you so much for being here.

(15:29 – 15:51)

Please subscribe, share this with your friends. I want to build a community here of like-minded people who just want to take good care of themselves and those that they love in ways that are full of grace and kindness and love. I’m going to say namaste, which is how I ended every yoga class that I taught at Siobhan’s Yoga Studio.

(15:51 – 16:06)

Why do I want to say namaste? First of all, I want to bring it back and reclaim it from the degradation that is experienced as a term on sort of, you know, mass media. It means I bow to the God within you. My soul bows to your soul.

(16:06 – 16:18)

We acknowledge each other as that spark of the infinite that I was just talking about. You know, I can be a little bit lofty. I can be a little bit reverent sometimes when I’m really like, I have so much love in my heart for God in the universe.

(16:19 – 16:30)

So when I say namaste, like, I really mean it because there’s also that side of it. Like, don’t bring me down. Don’t let your toxicity mess with me because I’m trying to keep the vibe high.

(16:31 – 16:41)

I love you. I see you. I wish you all the best, but don’t treat me poorly, right? Empathy, fine line there about like, well, more on that.

(16:41 – 16:47)

I’m going to do a whole episode on that. So namaste and thank you very much. So that’s a wrap on today’s episode.

(16:47 – 16:58)

Thank you so much for being here. It genuinely means everything to me. If something in this conversation sparks something for you, share it with a woman or a guy in your life who needs to hear it.

(16:58 – 17:14)

That’s how this show grows. That’s how we heal the planet together, and that’s how we really connect. For more resources, free tools, and everything we talked about today, head over to shivansarna.com. That’s S-H-I-V-A-N-S -A-R-N-A.com. It’s all there waiting for you.
